Case Study · De Thomas Wealth

How Foster Martens built six chapters of his playbook in two weeks.

A motivated advisor sat down with the template and Claude and turned what lived in his head into a documented system, without the blank page that stops most builds before they start.

The challenge

Foster was not in crisis. He was doing the smart thing: getting ahead of it. He wanted how his practice runs written down before it grew past what one person could hold in their head.

The processes that ran the practice lived where they live for most advisors, in his own memory. That works until it does not, and Foster knew it.

The hard part was knowing where to start. A practice has dozens of moving parts, and a blank page gives no clue which thread to pull first. That is where most documentation projects die: not from lack of will, but from not knowing where to begin.

The approach

Foster never faced a blank page. The Guide and template gave him the chapter structure already built, so he started with a shape to fill rather than a blank document to invent. He opened the playbook, opened Claude, and talked it through. Claude interviewed him about how each process actually works, then wrote it into Notion for him. His only job was to explain what he already knew.

In his words, he got into a flow state. The work stopped feeling like writing and started feeling like a conversation. The advisor talks. The system writes it down.

What changed
Before
A blank page and no idea where to start.
After
Open the template, talk it through, and Claude writes the chapter.
Before
How the practice runs lived in Foster’s head.
After
Six chapters documented in a system the team can follow.
Before
No way to see what was missing.
After
The build surfaced blind spots the practice did not know it had.

The integration between Claude and Notion has been amazing. You open the playbook, talk it through, and Claude fills out the template for you. I get into a flow state building chapters. Having the template already built instead of starting from scratch made it easy from day one.

The results

  • Six chapters of the practice documented in about two weeks, from operations to client experience.
  • The template and Claude integration removed the blank-page problem entirely; building felt like a conversation, not a writing project.
  • The framework surfaced gaps the practice did not know it had, turning documentation into improvement.
  • Team adoption started on its own as colleagues saw the early wins.

Why it matters

Most advisors assume documenting their practice is a months-long writing project they will never start. Foster shows the other path. With the chapters already structured and Claude doing the writing, the only job left is to talk through what you already know. Two weeks in, he had six chapters and a clearer view of his own practice.
